Barry A. Cik

Technical Director of Naturepedic, USA

Keynote: Disease pre-emption: Reducing environmental chemical exposures in the home

Time : 09:30-10:30

Biography:

Barry A Cik is the founder and Technical Director of Naturepedic, a manufacturer of award-winning certified organic mattresses. He has had a lifelong interest in advancing a healthier lifestyle and the elimination of toxic and questionable chemicals in consumer products. A board-certified environmental engineer, Barry is an advocate for legislative reform regarding chemical usage and was invited to testify in Washington, DC for a congressional subcommittee exploring chemical reform. He is also a frequent speaker and thought leader, speaking before scientific, consumer, political and business audiences on the benefits of healthier product design without toxic or questionable chemicals.

Abstract:

Our ancestors used materials found in nature to build whatever they needed. With the advent of science, technology, and industrialization, materials became synthetically produced. Many of these modern materials are toxic. Some of the most toxic are chemical flame retardants (FR). FRs are used extensively in consumer products. The current state of flame retardant (FR) chemical exposures in the home have reached a saturation point. Even though FR chemicals are toxic, it is almost impossible to find a consumer product in a typical home that does not have an FR chemical as part of its make-up. FR chemicals migrate into the environment and living things. FR chemicals can be found in the blood and urine of animals and human beings. Current studies have pointed to links between FR chemical exposures and diseases such as cancer, asthma, dermatitis, organ damage, teratogenic damage, autism, neurological impairment, and more. There are options which can reduce or eliminate toxic chemical exposures. This presentation will discuss a naturopathic approach to mitigating health risks via pre-emption of chemical exposures in the home by design.

Keynote Forum

Sunita Hiranandaney

India Wellness Center, Dominican Republic

Keynote: Light: The medicine of the future
Biography:

Sunita Hiranandaney, DHMS, NMD. Graduated in 1978, from, Nehru Homeopathic Medical College, New Delhi, India. Has been practicing Homeopathy for 40yrs. Migrated to the USA in 1988. Has been researching Alternative & Complementary fields of Medicine in Germany, Austria, Russia & USA (like Live blood analysis, ayurvedic detox, orthomolecular medicine, oxidative medicine, etc). She believes that real Health is Happiness and a true balance in body, mind & spirit.

Abstract:

Dr. Sunita Hiranandaney, in her forty years of experience in the treatment of patients with autoimmune disease, has found the laser & bio-photon therapy as one of the very important tools in healing. We all know that man essentially is a being of light. Prof. Fritz Albert Popp and the modern science of photobiology is presently proving this. In terms of healing, the implications are immense. We know now that quanta of light can initiate or arrest cascade-like reactions in the cells and that the genetic cellular damage can be virtually repaired within hours, by fair beams of light. We are still on the threshold of fully understanding the complete relationship between light and life, but we can now say emphatically, that the function of our entire metabolism is dependent on the light. (Dr. Fritz Albert Popp). The laser and bio-photon therapy, in other words, energy medicine, has been used in healing for a long time now. The bio-photons are the smallest particles of light. These with no mass transmit information within and between cells. Also, many fields on biological medicine and medical techniques underwent a fundamental change with the new inventions. It has been discovered that all the cells emanate a weak wave of bio-photon which helps to initiates cell communication. The energy of healing laser activates the power station in the cells (mitochondria) and thus contributes to the release of further energy. As we know that energy is the prerequisite of all life, of the individual cells as well as of the complete organism. Many years ago, when an electric current was discovered it was thought that one was on the trail of the special invention. Very soon it was found that nature since its very existence has made use of electric current. The same applies to the laser. The discovery of ultraviolet radiations of all living cells of our body put us on the trail of nature’s another secret. The properties of radiation or rather the energy in our cells are identical to laser radiation. With the correct dosage, it can maintain one’s health. With over fifteen years of research, a biological laser technique has produced a new laser and biophoton therapy methods with greatly improved properties and effects on our health.

Session Introduction

Yuka Saeki

Ehime University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan

Title: Effect of the scent of peppermint on work efficiency
Biography:

Y Saeki is a nurse and has completed her PhD at the age of 30years from the University of Tsukuba. She has continued to research and education about human body function. Since 1995, she has continued research on complementary alternative therapy in some nursing college, involved in the education of nursing students. She is the Professor of Ehime University, Faculty of Medicine, School of Nursing now.

Abstract:

This study was designed to clarify whether the scent of peppermint influences work efficiency. Twenty female participated in this study (21.5+0.7yrs.). The psychomotor vigilance test (PVT) was applied to the participants for 10minutes in the room with peppermint oil and without the odor (control) to evaluate the work efficiency. The participants were asked to press a button located on the device, as soon as the visual stimuli appeared at random in PVT. Reaction time (RT) to visual stimulation was applied for evaluation of work efficiency. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was also used for subjective sensation. These experiments were performed in a different room and the order of measurement was at random. Some drops of peppermint oils were dripped on the filter paper in the diffuser and the oil was warmed by a miniature bulb from the bottom of the filter paper. This study was submitted to and approved by the ethic committee of Ehime University Graduate School of Medicine. Mean of RT was 264.6+36.5msec or 247.9+32.8msec in control or peppermint oil, respectively, and the mean RT of peppermint oil was significantly smaller. VAS showed 44.5+18.8 for control and 67.9+21.8 for peppermint, there was a significant difference between two groups. These results indicate that the work efficiency must increase by smelling the fragrance of peppermint oil. When workers feel tired, the scent of peppermint may be able to change their mood

William Meditskos

Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Canada

Title: Intro to naturopathic medicine and how it saved my life

Time : 13:30-14:15

Biography:

William Meditskos is a 4th-year clinic intern at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. He spent 4years studying Human Kinetics at the University of Guelph. During his time at the university, he worked in a breast cancer research lab within the Human Health and Nutritional Science Department and performed research on diet and its effects on systemic lupus erythematosus. After graduating with honors from Guelph, he began his pursuit into the world of naturopathic medicine. His passion for research further motivated him to publish an abstract in the 2019 URNCST Journal looking at the anabolic effects of Colostrum as a neutraceutical. With curiosity and passion for both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, he helped create a 1-month long externship to Shanghai, China where a small group of highly motivated students shadowed doctors in 3 different hospitals affiliated with the Shanghai University of TCM and Fudan University.

Abstract:

Naturopathic medicine is a distinct primary health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. It is based on the healing power of nature and it supports and stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself. Naturopathic medicine is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention using natural therapies including: botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, naturopathic manipulation, traditional Chinese medicine/acupuncture, life-style counselling and health promotion and disease prevention. The Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) was established in 1978 and is the only naturopathic college in Canada that is approved to confer a 4-year doctor degree and the only college to offer IMG bridge delivery. CCNM is home to Canada’s largest naturopathic teaching clinic and the first naturopathic teaching clinic in a hospital setting. In 2014, one year after graduating from the University of Guelph, he was faced with a very challenging situation that could have ended his life. It was the use of certain foundational naturopathic medical modalities that saved his life and dramatically increased his recovery time. Not only did it save his life, it drove his decisions to pursue naturopathic medicine as a career. He has never looked back since and continues to educate the world on the importance of integrative medicine. Sit down with him, who is now a 4th year clinical intern at both the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and the Brampton Naturopathic Teaching Clinic affiliated with the William Osler’s Health System at the Brampton Civic Hospital and discover the world of naturopathic medicine.

Abstract:

Infertility is inability to become pregnant after one year of unprotected regular intercourse. Male infertility related to sperm is associated with childhood diseases, systemic illnesses, surgeries, allergies, drugs and gonad toxins (chemical or environmental). The sample need 48h of abstinence, a volume of 1,5ml, 15´000.000/ml of sperm cells, 58% with vital forms, 32% with fast progression, 40% with motility, 40% with normal morphology. Infertility affects 15% of couples and in Latin America, the male factor is involved in 52% of the cases. This work makes a retrospective revision of 20 patients with a diagnosis of oligospermia as the main cause of infertility, treated previously with conventional procedures and therapies, without positive outcomes. An integrative protocol of CAM which included diet, exercise, clothing, work environment, alimentary supplements, homeopathic medicine, ozone therapy and few sessions of intratesticulate neural therapy was applied. After that protocol 90% of cases have positive outcomes in sperm quality and resolution of infertility.

Avicenna authored the Canon of Medicine (Al-Qanun fi al-tibb): a five-volume medical encyclopedia. Book 2 and Book 5 of al-Qanun fi al-tibb describe over 700 simple drugs and compound medicines of plant, animal and mineral origin with their medicinal properties and instructions for their preparation. In GR Setra Complementary Medical Center, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, we treating patients with chronic disease such as malignancy, chronic kidney disease, heart disease and diabetes mellitus, based on the Canon of Medicine; where the drug manufacturing process takes up to 2years and must go through a material burial process, with a depth of 9 to 13 meters below ground level, this serves as a catalyst to perfect natural chemical compound. We will present some cases from our patients, such as cervix cancer, lung cancer, coronary heart disease, and kidney failure.

Biography:

Abstract:

Hijamah therapy is one of the leading alternative & complementary modalities in the World. It is kind of detoxification, rejuvenation and blood purification method. It comes under Ilaj bil Tadbeer (Regimental therapy) in unani medical system. In diabetes, hands and foot care in people is very important because of slow blood circulation, where blood sometimes does not able to fully penetrate the capillaries. Hijamah therapy works upon the following two principles- Tanqiyae Mawad (Evacuation of morbid humours) and Imalae Mawad (Diversion of humours). The aim of this study was to find out the effectiveness of hijamah therapy on numbness of legs in a diabetic patient. This case study was carried out in Ayurvedic Research Hospital (Non Communicable Diseases), Ninthavur, Sri Lanka. A 63 years old female diabetic patient came to the clinic with the complain of numbness in both feet for one year. The treatment history of the patient revealed that she had taken western medicine for her complains for 7 months. In her first visit dry and wet cupping was done on local and distal points.Patient was noticed remarkable improvement as soon after the cupping, internal medicines were given to keep the blood sugar level in normal with  some external applications. In every week dry and wet cupping was done in same points, with repeating same  medicines.Foot numbness  was fully cured within one month. The finding of this study shows that the complain of numbness in diabetic patient was treated with hijamah therapy with internal & external medicine. This case study can be concluded as hijamah therapy is very effective in treating diabetic numbness. This single case study may be the entrance for future clinical studies.
